During the consultation call, I usually start with two questions: what colours are on your walls at home, and what is baby’s personality like? Those two answers narrow the collection from 250 options to a shortlist of four or five in about ten minutes. From there, most families know which direction feels right.

If you are genuinely torn between two themes, I sometimes suggest starting the session with one and shifting to the other for a second look, depending on time. Two complete looks are possible in a two-hour session if the theme changes are not too complex.

What age is best for a cake smash session?

Eleven to thirteen months. Baby is sitting confidently, curious about the props, and still small enough for those genuine expressions of surprise and delight that define great cake smash photography.

How far in advance should I book?

Four to six weeks is the minimum. Eight to twelve weeks is better if you want a weekend date, a specific popular theme, or a session during the spring or fall busy periods.
